We want to hear your questions!

"Welcome to our first official Q&A segment where you can ask questions about our upcoming Cyberpunk title. Just leave your questions in the comments below and we will be back with answers next week. We will close this thread on Monday (July 30th) at 3PM GMT, select 5 questions, and post the answers on Wednesday (August 1st).

Please remember that a lot about this project is still classified and we simply can’t answer every single question you might have, even if we really wanted to, so please keep that in mind. Only one question per person and please try to keep your inquiries relatively short. Also, if your question isn’t picked this time, it still might get answered next time we do the Community Q&A: it might mean that we’re not allowed to talk about what you want to know at this particular moment.

Alright, so let’s begin, shall we?"

Community Q&A – Time for some answers

"As promised last week, today we’ve prepared some information about our upcoming Cyberpunk title. It’s great that you have so many questions about the game and we hope that we can satisfy at least some of your hunger for knowledge about the title that’s currently being in the works. With that being said, let’s get to the main dish.

Below you can find the original questions followed by answers from CD Projekt RED Community Manager, Marcin Momot.

Richie79: What elements are you using as inspiration (references) for making Cyberpunk?

Marcin Momot: There are quite a few actually. Aside from the obvious ones like the works of William Gibson or the Blade Runner movie, we also take from the first Ghost in the shell, both anime and manga. We’re also looking up to ShellShock because of its interesting approach to gameplay. The first part of Deus Ex is also a very important source of inspiration to us.

Guipit: Will choosing your class affect the story? If so, how much?

MM: It’s always been very important to us to deliver mature and ambitious entertainment. It’s not going to be any different this time around. We want to keep the role system from the pen & paper version of Cyberpunk. As opposed to the regular fantasy set-up with mages, warriors and archers, we’re going for something different. In Cyberpunk, each character role will offer a set of special skills that will impact your stats in many different ways. That’s where the challenge kicks in, we want to create a game where character customization will be strongly tied with the plot. Now going from that, we believe that we can make a game where, with many different role choices, you will get a very strong, engaging story, just like it was with The Witcher.

Mihura: Will there be full customization of our character like a D&D game, things like gender, ethnicity, moral stand point, sexuality...etc or we will be restrict to something like Geralt from TW2?

MM: We definitely want to give players way more freedom with customization of the main protagonist then they had with Geralt in The Witcher series. We are planning on letting them change their statistics, equipment, implants and much more.

Saoe: When can we expect to see more info, screenshots or first videos from the game?

MM: I keep bothering guys from the art team to release some new content soon but they don’t want to listen to me for some reason. I won’t give up though, so make sure to follow our website and social media because when I finally convince them, you will be the first ones to know.

Geralt The Riv: Will the setting be a totally new designed by CDPR(You know like name of the planet, country, state, city etc) or just a mimic of a current location?(New York, L.A. Miaimi etc.....)

MM: Cyberpunk’s story takes place all over the world, but we’re going to focus on it’s most characteristic venue - Night City. One thing is certain, we want to make a game with an open, living world that stays true to the source material."

At first glance it may seem that there’s nothing easier than creating a video game based on an existing RPG system like Cyberpunk® 2020. After all, we already have all the mechanics prepared and ready to use in the game. As simple as it sounds, there’s more to it than meets the eye.
The pen & paper game rules are designed to give players as much flexibility as possible. They are more like a set of guidelines which players are at liberty to bend to their liking. Improvisation, dropping rules or adding new ones is a common practice for pen & paper games. This principle applies not only to gameplay rules, like combat or skill tests, but also to character customization. Players are limited only by common sense, the agreement of the group and their imagination.
Video games, on the other hand, do not have that much flexibility. Every element has to be accounted for and carefully designed. Of course, modern AAA RPG games, like The Witcher 2 or the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, can give the Player lots of freedom. But the underlying mechanics are adhering to very strict rules and if an action or option wasn’t implemented in the code, then the player will not be able to do it. The same principle applies to character customization – the player can do only as much as game allows him to. So if game designers decide that it is not possible to play as an ugly midget you will not be able to play one. Sorry Tyrion Lannister fans
This is why adapting pen & paper rules to video game is not as easy as it can appear at first glance. The flexibility of an in-person RPG has to be replaced with a strict set of rules. Every skill, attribute and game mechanic has to have a clear definition and place in the game. For example, the Cyberpunk® 2020 “Wardrobe & Style” skill governs the knowledge about the right clothes to wear, when to wear them and how to look cool even in a spacesuit. As you can see, this skill covers quite a big area of lore and can be interpreted differently, depending on the situation and the players. In Cyberpunk 2077 this skill has to be tied to a specific gameplay mechanic. And all of these mechanics have to be clearly defined so they can work well with other elements of the game and, at the same time, be easy to understand for the player. After all, we don’t have a referee or game master to explain or interpret the rules as you go. And, to accommodate your curiosity, yes, we have some really cool ideas on how to present aforementioned skill in the game. Regrettably, we’re not quite yet ready to spill the beans
For hardcore Cyberpunk 2020 fans out there, twiddling with rules in such a way may seem like blasphemy. But rest assured that we are working very closely with Mike Pondsmith to ensure that the unique feel of the original, paper game is preserved intact. Of course we may need to change some things, add new elements or even drop the ones that simply do not work in a video game (“Geology” skill anyone?).
Of course, the topic raised today is only the tip of an iceberg and you probably have tons of questions. Unfortunately, we are not ready to reveal more details at the moment. Nevertheless, we’ll be more than happy to read your comments so feel free to drop them below and stay tuned. When we’re ready, we will surely share more information with you. Be patient and remember: Attitude is Everything!

Puntano ad un'impostazione più aperta questa volta. Direi che è un bene considerando il setting e il ruleset. Poi c'è da vedere come se la cavano con un qualcosa diverso da TW.

Cyberpunk 2077 By “The Witcher” Developer Is A Sandbox Cyberpunk RPG

As reported earlier this year, The Witcher developer, CD Projekt Red, are working on a new cyberpunk role-playing game, based on an old pen-and-paper RPG, Cyberpunk, developed by Mike Pondsmith. The final title of the videogame adaptation be Cyberpunk 2077.
As indicated by the title, Cyberpunk 2077 will take place in the year 2077. Keeping with the standard cyberpunk theme, the world of 2077 is a place where technology has become both a salvation and a curse upon humanity.
The story of Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in the metropolis of Night City and its surrounding areas, and CD Projekt Red promise a mature, non-linear plot, mentioning the game’s sandbox nature and gameplay mechanics inspired by the Cyberpunk 2020 pen-and-paper system, which they say they are fine-tuning to meet the requirements of a modern RPG.
CD Projekt Red say that they began thinking of a sci-fi RPG while working on The Witcher 2, and use ideas that didn’t make it into that game.
“We were still committed to create a game for mature audiences that dealt with important, thought-provoking matters,” they say on Cyberpunk 2077’s development blog. “We would put in place exactly what we’ve learned while creating The Witcher 2 with just one difference—the game would be set in the future. No elves, no dwarves and no magic.”
“Rest assured that we are working very closely with Mike Pondsmith to ensure that the unique feel of the original, paper game is preserved intact,” CD Projekt Red write in another blog post. “Of course we may need to change some things, add new elements or even drop the ones that simply do not work in a video game

Not only the Cyberchef has his taste: More about inspiration | Cyberpunk Blog

Dystopia and Syndicate are, of course, not the only games that we are looking at, though they are obvious inspirations. There are quite few more. I will only highly major features of these games that have guided what we want Cyberpunk 2077 to become, and maybe in the future we will go into more details about how these concepts work together.
System Shock (1994) – Great atmosphere combined with non-linear gameplay
Fallout 2 (1998) – A character’s development could determine the available dialog options he/she would encounter
Baldur’s Gate Saga (1998-2000) – Faithful adaptation of a Pen& Paper RPG system without getting bogged down in numbers.
Deus Ex (2000) – Considered by many to one of the best (if not the best) Cyberpunk game. It had an involving story multiple ways to accomplish a goal. One of first games of its time and still one of the very few games where it was possible to finish it without killing anyone.
The Witcher series (2007, 2011) – Rich and mature story. Stunning graphics.
Skyrim (2011) – One of the best implementations of an open, sandbox world.

Oddio, "fedele adattamento e BG" proprio no (avrei citato ToEE).
Su Skyrim immagino volessero intendere Dark Souls

E comunque Deus Ex non è uno dei migliori giochi cyberpunk, è uno dei migliori giochi. Punto.
