Evvai sono un beta tester di Spartan! Dai creatori di Legion e Chariots Of War. Vi terrò informati. :)

Dear Stefano,

thank you for your application to be a beta tester for Spartan. We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected for the Spartan Beta test. You will be entering the test at Stage 2. Please see the information below about the Confidentiality Agreement and don’t forget we must receive a signed copy from you by 17/10/03.

There will be a number of stages to the Beta test and in total 300 people will be involved. The stages are described below along with the approximate date when they will start. These dates may change depending on the current state of development. Each stage is vitally important so don’t think that just because you’ll be starting to test later on that it is less important – this simply isn’t true! One of the advantages of starting to test later on is that you let the other guys clean up the game so that when you start to play its much more fun .

Stage 1 ~ 6/10/03
A small group of approximately 10 experienced beta testers will begin to test the game and identify any Show Stopper bugs that prevent proper testing and to give us their initial impressions of the game. They will also be involved in testing the feedback processes. The aim is to train up this small group so that they will be able to assist us with Stage 2. We will try to get multiplayer games up and running but it will be hard to get many going with so few testers.

Stage 2 ~ 17/10/03
A larger group of approximately 40 beta testers will be added to the mix. These guys all have previous experience of our games so know what to expect from the system. By this time the initial glitches in the system will have been ironed out and people should be in for a smoother ride. Multiplayer testing will start for real with this larger test group. This group will also bring a fresh look to the testing. Testers will be organised into groups, with leaders picked from the Stage 1 testers. The idea is that each group leader will be able to guide the members of their group and control the feedback to us.

Stage 3 ~ 31/10/03
Now we’re into full testing. About 125 new testers will come online. This will be much the same as Stage 2, except group leaders will be drawn from Stage 1 & 2 testers. The main purpose of delaying the entry of these testers is to make sure we have enough trained up testers ready to guide them.

Stage 4 ~ 14/11/03
The remaining 125 testers will be brought online. As above the group leaders will be picked from the experienced testers. The purpose of delaying the entry of these testers is to ensure that we have fresh blood. Peoples’ first impressions are very important, and as they are first impressions you can only have them once! If we let everyone start testing at the same time, 2 months down the line there would be nobody we could ask for a first impression. Although these guys are entering the test later on, they will be invaluable for ensuring the game grabs people at first glance and keeps them hooked.
